Brief History of Peshawar Region

Regional Office Peshawar was established in 1975, thus Peshawar is one of the oldest regions of FGEIs. It is managing 50 institutions, including 8 colleges, which are located at various parts of the Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Province. There are 15793 students enrolled in the FG institutions with 704 faculty members. Oldest institution of the region is FG Degree College for Men, Peshawar Cantt which was established as a school in a Scottish Church in 1954 and upgraded as a College in 1965. Other historic institutions at Peshawar include FG Boys Public High School, FG Technical High School and FG Girls High School. The Region also has institutions in Nowshera, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Thall, Cherat, Landi Kotal, Batkhela, Warsak and Para Chinar. Institutions of Peshawar Region have been producing very good academic results. In 2013, Anam Nawaz of FG Girls College Mardan stood 2nd in Mardan Board HSSC Exam. Peshawar Region has the honour to have on its roll some of the renowned personalities including Maj Gen Ghayur Mehmood, Maj Gen Inam ul Haq, Maj Gen Abid Nazir, Mr. Inayat Ilahi (Chairman CDA), Syed Tahir Shah (Secretary Interior), Zek Afridi (popular singer) and many others. We also feel elevated that Gen (R) Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani and Gen Raheel Sharif (COAS), renowned politicians Mr. Salim Saif Ullah Khan and Mr. Anwar Saif Ullah Khan are also the alumni of FGEIs.
