Brief History of Kharian Region
Regional Office Kharian was established at Mangla in 1981 with the responsibility of managing 32 schools and 5 colleges located at Mangla, Kharian, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Jhelum, Sargodha and Shorkot. Later in 1990 another Regional Office was raised at Gujranwala for management of institutions at Gujranwala, Sialkot and Sargodha. Presently Kharian Regional Office looks after 14 FGEIs located at Kharian and Mangla with 174 faculty members and 6816 students. The oldest institution of the Region is FG Public School Mangla, established in 1952. The Region is striving very hard to produce excellent results in curricular and co-curricular fields. It is a matter of great satisfaction that Aatika, a student of FG Public School Mangla Cantt secured 1005/1050 marks in FBI&SE SSC Exam 2013. In co-curricular activities, FG Degree College for Women Kharian remained unbeaten both in software and cooking competitions. In sports, FG Degree College for Men Kharian stood First in All Pakistan Football Competition. Students of Kharian Region also won 10 Middle Standard Scholarships. Institutions of Kharian Region have produced many renowned personalities who are serving in various fields at home and abroad. Maj Gen Muhammad Farrukh Rashid, Lt Col Tahir Ali Khan (GSO-1 Kharian Region), Lt Col Muhammad Imran (Surgical Specialist) and Lt Col Zafar Iqbal, Renowned Politicians Qamar Zaman Kaira, Ch. Rehman Naseer and many others are the alumni of FG institutions.
