Brief History of Gujranwala Region
Gujranwala Region was established in 1990 prior to which FGEIs of the region were being looked after by Mangla Region. In addition to the FGEIs of Gujranwala Cantt, this Region also looks after institutions located at Sialkot, Sargodha, Kirana, and Mona. There are in all 23 institutions, including 2 colleges located at Gujranwala and Sialkot. Oldest institutions of the region are FG Boys Public School Sialkot, established in 1957 and FG Girls Public School Sialkot, established in 1958. Currently there are 10050 students enrolled in these institutions with 338 faculty members. Institution of Gujranwala Region have always produced very good results. In 2013, students of the Region won 24 scholarships in Middle and 6 in Primary classes. In co-curricular fields, the institutions of Gujranwala Region have prominent position. These institutions have the honour to produce many renowned personalities. Although, there is a lengthy list of Army officers, doctors, advocates, businessmen and educationists, a few among those include Lt Gen (R) Shahid Hamid, Maj Gen Jamshaid Riaz, Ghulam Muhammad Tiwana (MNA), Abdul Razzaq Dhillon (MPA), renowned poet Syed Wasi Shah, Brigadier Mansoor (Commander NLC), Brigadier Waheed Gul, Mr. Aftab Sultan (Additional DIG Police) and Dr. Baber Alam (Director WHO).
